COVID-19 Quarantine: Day 14 - 3/29/2020

Day 14...

I must have fallen asleep around midnight. I didn't set an alarm hoping I would wake up later in the morning. Instead, I woke up at 5:15 am PT. I tried going back to sleep but I couldn't so I physically out of bed around 5:40 am.

That's how year 30 started for me.

And of course, year 30 also started off with going to the kitchen first thing in the morning, set up my Cosori and Chemex to make coffee out of Caveman Coffee grinds.

I started to write my blog for Day 13 as I drank my coffee. For my blog, I usually keep tabs on my phone of what I do so I don't forget what I did throughout the day, but lately I've been slacking off on the task. However, I do in fact take random photos throughout the day and videos of the workout so I'm able to go back to those and check the timestamp of what I did during that time.

I decided to go on a run around 7:30 am after I finished the blog for Day 13. I honestly didn't know what to throughout the day before I had to leave for my mom and sister's house at 11:40 am. As I was running, the first person to wish me a happy birthday was Rafael. He FaceTimed probably a mile into my run and sang me happy birthday. I didn't stop running to talk to him, but I think he understood. Plus, we were going to talk to each other later in the day anyways.

I appreciate phone calls and texts more than a post saying "happy birthday" on social media. My take on that is phones calls or texts seems a little more personable and means a little more than joining the norm of a thread. Although that might just be me (rant over).

After I got back from the run, I was bored the death, still trying to figure out what I should do to kill time until I had to leave. I showered, cleaned my room, posted a picture on Instagram. I was running of things to do during this time.

Finally, about 3 hours later, I started to pack my car to leave for my mom and sister's house. As I was making my way back and forth from my car. I checked my mail to find my power and electricity bills to be sitting there. I opened it and was shocked how much it was. David and I moved into the condo we live in now about a year ago, and the power and electricity bill went up $100 since then. I don't believe it we changed much of our routine since then. Nonetheless, I was furious.

I went over to my mom and sister's house and got there around noon. I went over to their place so early is because Rafael wanted to workout via Instagram live again, and the workout involved jump roping, which I could have made it work in the tiny patio I have, but there is a huge space in the backyard of my mom and sister's place and I was heading there for dinner anyways.

At 1:03 pm, Rafael and I started the workout. The Workout Of The Day was...

"Annie"
50-40-30-20-10 Reps For Time
Double Unders
Sit-Ups

My Time: 8:16
Rafael's Time: 8:26 (If I remember correctly)

After the workout, Rafael made me do 30 push ups for my 30th birthday. That was a nice birthday gift from him (sarcastic).

I laid down in the back yard for about 20 minutes after we got done working out. It felt really nice to be outside and have the sun glare on your and let the breeze go by. It reminded me of going to the beach, especially on Sunday's during the summer, where I would meet up with a group of friends down in Playa Del Rey to play beach volley. I hope this pandemic comes to an end soon.

I decided to go to Target to pick up something as one of my sisters needed to go grab some things there too. Before we went into Target, my youngest sister, Azusa, and I were talking about working out and the topic of squatting. When we got out of the car, she was trying to show me how she was told to squat in the parking garage. There was a person in a car next to were I parked and the first place we went to was the food section. Surprisingly, there was quite a few beef products, but no sight of chicken. Eggs were on the shelf and plenty of wine in the spirits section.

We left the store and decided call in our dinner order for my birthday which was 5 pizza's from South End in Venice Beach and 4 different pastas from Eatlalian in Gardena. Almost for the last couple of years, I've had Italian for dinner on my birthday. I thought of keeping it going. Plus, South End was closing their doors after Day 14 and I wanted to support the restaurant.

Support local and/or small business if you can.

We nearly finished everything we bought for dinner but had a total of 2 pizza pies left over at the end.

Before I left back to Casa Del Dova-Endo, Azusa asked me if I've ever done the Footshake Dance. I've seem people do TikTok videos of the Footshake Dance but I have never attempted it before. I'm really don't follow trends like that. But Azusa really wanted to me do it with her so I agreed to it. 3 tries later, we nailed the routine, where my other sister, Haruka, took about 20-30 minutes the day before to get the routine down.

Day 14 ended with bring back home leftover pizza and an eel bowl my mom made for dinner as well. I laid in bed and thought how thankful I was for everything I have, especially during this pandemic.

Don't take things for granted.

Thank you to everyone that reached out to me to wish me a happy birthday. I appreciate each and every one of you and are all too kind for doing that during these tough times.

Let's see what Day 15 brings.

COVID-19 Quarantine: Day 13 - 3/28/2020

Day 13...

In the last post, on Day 11, I mentioned I had In-N-Out for my meals. To get into more details on that, I had my first meal which was around 2:20 pm PT and I ordered two 3x3 (3 patties and 3 cheese) protein burgers, which I inhaled both burgers within a matter of minutes. Then, again around 7:50 pm, I ate my second meal which was one Double-Double burger, one Animal-style cheese burger and Animal-style fries. One meal was to celebrate the 48 nominations Fox Sports received for the Sports Emmys on Day 11 and the other was for a "Treat-Yo-Self Thursday, implemented from my DEUCE Gym message group.

Fast forward to Day 13, my already sleeping pattern I think got even worse by not being able to sleep being so full. It was harder to get out of bed this morning. It crazy how much food influences your body and the mind.

I didn't set an alarm for Day 13 but I still woke up early around 6:15 am. I got out of bed around right then because I knew if I tried to fall back asleep again, I would fail to do so.

And as almost 99.9% of each morning, I took slow steps towards the kitchen, set up my Cosori and Chemex to make coffee out of Caveman Coffee grinds. I really need to put in my order for another bag of coffee grinds.

Second thing I did was write the blog for Days 9-12, since I put my invest for time on the Thankful For DEUCE project for those days (I believe I mentioned I write my blogs the day after so I can recap the day).

After finishing and publishing my blog, I decided to go workout for the at least 12th straight day, but I think it's been more than that. I wasn't going to work out on Day 12, but what else am I going to do?

As I got ready to go do walking lunges for 20 minutes, I checked my Instagram account, which the "Thank You, DEUCE" video has gotten great feed back, and I had a message request from a person from Chicago, Illinois, who is also in the CrossFit community. She reached out to me to tell me she absolutely loved the "Thank You, DEUCE" video, was inspired by it and she was looking for guidance to do same for her gym. I felt reluctant to help her out.

The feeling is something I can't describe of how grateful I am for people appreciating something I did. There has been a few times, maybe I count them on two hands, the times I felt this way. I can see why feature producers in production companies do this. The message of giving and receiving is powerful.

After talking to Chicago, as I will reference this person as that, I went to go do my 20 minutes of walking lunges, then ate a late breakfast, which consisted of 3 eggs sunny side up, 4 pieces of bacon, 3 pieces of breakfast sausages, and half a banana.

I finished up my late breakfast and took a shower afterwards to get ready to go on a scavenger hunt that I thought of earlier in the day. The scavenger hunt was going to consist of going to look for a couple of murals of the artwork done by a member at DEUCE Gym, Ruben Rojas.

The goal was to drive around locations around Santa Monica and Venice Beach and take pictures of it. I set a limit of about 5 minutes of being in front of the mural so I'm not "outside" for too long. This gave me something to do for about 2 hours.  I went to 4 locations, 3 of which I got pictures of, since the 4th one was a down a walk path to a restaurant and I didn't want to invade their space during these times.

I posted my adventure on Instagram and I tagged Ruben on those. He replied back immediately, told me to try to find them all and gave me other locations around the Los Angeles area. Thats something for next Saturday, which would be Day 20.

Before I did go on my scavenger hunt, I went to Bryan's house that he just moved into to drop off something from work. He gave me quick tour of the house and man, what a place. It make me want to invest in a house soon. I'm not getting any younger and time isn't going to slow down.

And times are also weird, especially when you work in the sports industry. Bryan, I mentioned works for Fox Sports and works on remote productions for a MLB Crew, was mentioning how when he doesn't know when Opening Day will actually be, how the Postseason will at most go into late November (possibly December even), and the London Series game, which he was supposed to work in June, already got canceled.

For me, NFL is as scheduled for now, but I also work on the Fox's golf package and I've heard from a couple of people saying the U.S. Open won't be in June, which every year it's on Father's Day weekend. I also heard it could be pushed back to October (Master maybe in November for CBS), which that will go up against MLB Postseason, Thursday Night Football and Football Sunday's, if we are talking what events will be on  during the week of the U.S. Open.

It's such a crazy time.

I got back home and did another workout, which I think I mentioned in my earlier posts, extra credit. It consisted of 50 powell raises on each arm and 2:00 minutes of 90 degrees/ 90 degrees hip stretch on each side as well.

I decided to edit the photo's I took of Ruben's murals on my Canon EOS Rebel T3 camera after I worked out. When I was editing through the photo, I had a thought to where I wish I was creative and artistic.

Lacey, the coach I am assigned to from the DEUCE Gym Home programming workouts, wanted to do a Zoom video chat with the 27 members (maybe more) members of the gym she is responsible for. She suggested, if we live around the area, we go buy food from South End pizzeria in Venice Beach because their last day they are open during this pandemic is on Sunday, Day 14. I agreed to be a part of it.

Support local or small businesses if you can.

So for dinner, I had a gluten-free Kinney pizza (Crushed Roma tomatoes, burrata cheese, basil pesto and monini EVOO), Caprese Salad and 2 glasses of wine with 3 people that joined the Zoom video chat: Lacey, Neghar (another member at he gym) and myself.

About an hour after the Zoom outing, I FaceTimed Rafael and talked to him for about an hour as his wife joined in some conversations. One of the conversations was their wedding, which I attending in Ecuador back in July 2016, and how Rafael was extremely sick the day before his wedding and had to go to the hospital. Long story short, after he was in the hospital for 3 hours (12:00 am to 3:00 am), he got married hours later and looked good as new during the wedding. What a crazy time, a different crazy, that was.

Day 13 ended with laying down in bed trying to catch up on the show I started to continue yesterday and thoughts of what the next couple of weeks is going to turn out.

Day 13 is also the last day of my 20's. There are many things I am grateful for the last 29 years and I don't know where to even begin. All the life lesson of good and bad, love, break ups, wins and losses I went through hopefully help me grow to be a better person each day.

Thank you everyone for making the last 29 years awesome. As I turn 30 in a few hours, here's to another 30 years! Hopefully without a pandemic.

Let's see what Day 14 brings us.

COVID-19 Quarantine: Day 9 -12: 3/24/2020 - 3/27/2020

Days 9 - 12...

I had to take a break for a couple of day from writing. Also, I got invested on the project I said on Day 8 that I wanted to do during this Quarantine.

I could recap my the past 4 days but for the most part, it's been the same routine; go make coffee in the morning, workout, eat and sleep. Ill hit some major points that happened each day...

Day 9:

  • The project idea I had on Day 8 was to create a feel good video with members of DEUCE Gym saying thank you to the coaches at the gym. Since I couldn't go to people's houses or meet them at a location (probably could have secretly but I would have been limited), so I drafted up instructions as best as I could on what and how the subject should be recording from there phones. Luckily, with a TV background, I was able to write up instructions but I thinking so fast and wanted to turn this around quick that I forgot some instructions. Luckily, I asked Taylor and he came to the rescue. However, even with instructions, there is a large room for error and the vision I have for this project. I'm not able to give them instruction or guidance in real time so I relied heavily on the people I asked. Thankfully, in the end, they nailed it, which I will get too soon.
  • There is a group chat that was formed on Day 1 with the DEUCE Gym members and the coach we were assigned to. To keep things interesting, unintentionally, we added Taco Tuesday into the week.
Day 10:
  • I had a video conference call with my colleagues and bosses. It was the first time I saw any of them since March 12th. Everyone seemed to be doing well. At the end of the call, one of my bosses told us to go learn a new skill, like playing a guitar.
  • It was the 2nd day of working on the project and I told the people I reached out to record themselves and send their videos by Thursday. I maybe received 3 videos from the 19 people I asked at the end of Day 10.
  • My DEUCE Gym group chat has implemented Wine Wednesday. I had two glasses of South End Cabernet Sauvignon (a wine from a local pizzeria) and went straight to bed afterwards.
Day 11:
  • I got an email first thing in the morning from the producer I was working on Sports Emmys with at Fox during the month of January and February. He emailed the team noting that FOX Sports had 48 Emmy nominations, which was a new record for FOX Sports. What a way to start the day. I celebrated by going to In-N-Out and getting two 3x3 burgers, protein style.
  • I worked out 3 different times.
  • My DEUCE Gym has implemented Treat-Yo-Self Thursday. I went back to In-N-Out again and ate, a Double-Double, Cheeseburger and Animal Style Fries. I had a feeling that I wouldn't be feeling good the next day.
  • Emails and texts started to flow back with the project. I heard back from 14 people at the end of the day. I was going to have Taylor edit the video but I was pretty restless and bored that I started to work on it on my own, which started from around 8:30 pm and ended around 12:30 am.
Day 12:
  • I woke up around 6:00 am and made coffee before I started to edit more of the video for the project until about 12:00 pm. Before I finished it, I asked 3 friends, 2 of them that knew nothing about it, for their approval. Good thing I have friends that work in the TV industry.
  • I FaceTimed my friend, Jennifer. We both had the same color hoodie on. We laughed pretty hard about it.
  • I posted the video, "Thank You, DEUCE", on my Instagram Account.
  • I went over to DEUCE Gym to pick up something and talked to Logan for a brief moment about life and business.
  • The Mayor of Los Angeles put an order to close all beaches, beach access, beach bike paths, public trails and trail-head in all of Los Angeles County.
  • I FaceTimed my friend, Rafael. I guess we are doing another hero WOD on Sunday around 1:00 pm PT.

So far only 8 views on this blog, but who's counting right? Also, who wants to read about another person's life during this pandemic.

I'll still keep it going. It might get sporadic, however.

Let's see what Day 13 brings us.

COVID-19 Quarantine: Day 8 - 3/23/2020

Day 8...

Week 2 of Quarantine.

I probably fell asleep around 11:00 pm on Day 7. I set my alarm for 6 am and slept through the night until my alarm went off. My body felt like it was hit by a train with working out 7 straight days and I also felt my body still eating up the calories from dinner last night. No food belly this time around.

And as most days, on Day 8, I dragged my way over towards the kitchen, set up my Cosori and Chemex to make coffee out of Caveman Coffee grinds. I better order another batch soon before they the the county, state and/or country stops all shipping at some point, if it happens.

I decided to start my day a little different this week. I usually start by either writing my blog or doing a little work then working out. But On Day 8, I decided to continue to read the "In-N-Out Burgers" Book I mentioned in Day 3.

I came across a chapter in the book where they mentioned Rich Snyder, the second son of Harry Snyder who was the founder of In-N-Out. In the book, per Rich's friends, he always had a smile on his face.

I remember back in middle school, I had a few friends over and they decided to play bodies, which was a basically a safer way of saying boxing. Two friends went at it and we split them up. Then, I, who hasn't gotten in a fight still to this day, said I'll go up against someone. My friend, Marcus, stepped up to go up against me.

As we stood about 8 feet apart in my backyard, circling around an invisible ring, we hadn't thrown a punch in about 90 seconds. We threw fake punches to see if the opponent was scared or not. Then, Marcus after about 3 minutes in and as friends we're cheering us on, "Dude, I can't hit you. You're too nice!" I did always have a smile on my face during grade school. I guess growing up and old catches up with you.

I read the book for about 2 hours and proceeded to do work for a few hours and planned out my "Work At Home" schedule for Day 9.

Shortly after I was done with work, I was dreading it but worked out, though my body was telling me not to.

The Workout Of the Day Was...

Added Warm Up:
2 Rounds:
5 Glute Bridge Raises
10 Lizard Lunges
10 Standing Straight Leg Toe Taps

Progressive Volume Work:
Complete 5 rounds for quality:
12 Hollow Rocks
15 Push Ups
20 Squats

Progressive Tempo Run:
Run 10 Minutes Out
Return with a Negative Split (<10 Minutes)

I nearly passed out again on the run. Since Day 1, this workout has been posted three times (Day 1, Day 5, Day 8), but they have been added another round on the volume work each time and add another minute on the tempo run each time as well.

Afterward, I made lunch, that consisted of ground turkey and broccoli. Boring, right?

While I was on my run, I got one email about work, which was the one of three work related emails I got since Day 1. So after I ate, I worked on that until it was done, or as far as I could go with it.

Trying to spread out the day is pretty tough. If you have something to do, you don't really want to get all of it done, especially if there is no rush to. So in-between work on Day 8, I was scrolling through my photos on my phone. I came across a video of my friend, Trevor, trying to attempt a self trust fall.

The self trust fall is where you are on your knees and at attention, putting your hands behind your back, have your chin up, squeeze your butt and try to fall as you want to rock back and forth without falling flat on your face.

Trevor failed miserably. I'm still laughing as I am writing this.

After I got done with work and getting a good laugh out of the video, I decided to do a second workout. 20 minutes of lunging.

The 20 minute lunging comes from my good friend, Ben. From what I remember, he was in the Army and hurt his back really bad and couldn't lift weighs and the only thing he could do is lunges. So for 90 days, he would lunge for 20 minutes. One day during the summer, I just decided to do it and I've been doing it ever since at least once or twice a week.

After my second workout, I ate dinner, which was ground turkey and chicken curry with garlic and spinach rice and an egg on top, and watched Mad Men again with David.

Day 8 ended with reading about another 2 hours of "In-N-Out Burgers", which made me really hungry while reading the description of the burgers. But while I was reading through the book, some part would take me back to past memories I personally had (non-In-N-Out related) and get distracted as would I to read a page. I must have tried to re-read the same paragraph 10 times at one point. I couldn't get the thought out of my mind.

One of them being a project I wanted to do during this Quarantine.

Let's see what Day 9 brings us.

COVID-19 Quarantine: Day 7 - 3/22/2020

Day 7...

A full week in the books.

I probably fell asleep around 11:00 pm PT on Day 6 listening to "Healing" by Rebelution, but I woke up around 1:25 am, sweating from a bad dream.

Logan, a friend and owner of DEUCE Gym (friend first), posted a video on social media the other day saying a lot of small and local businesses won't make it out of the pandemic when it ends. On Day 6, the DEUCE Gym Instagram account posted a picture that on Sunday all the food and beverage products they sold must be sold. The post read "EVERYTHING MUST GO!",and that was the last thing I read in my dream and woke up.

I tossed and turned for about an hour and a half then finally fell back asleep to only wake up to my alarm at 6:00 am, where I was going to go down to the beach to go on a run, as I mentioned in Day 6. But my body was too exhausted. So I went back to sleep and rolled out of bed at 6:40.

I am so restless.

And yes, on Day 7, I slugged my way over towards the kitchen, set up my Cosori and Chemex to make coffee out of Caveman Coffee grinds.

First order of business was to finish my my blog for Day 6. I usually try to write my posts the day after incase I do or did something after I did post it. After I finished published it, I got ready to go to DEUCE for their Pop-Up store they were having where "EVERYTHING MUST GO!"

Before I left for DEUCE, let me back track.

While in bed on Day 6, I was scrolling through Instagram stories (I really need to not be on my phone all the time during this whole situation) and I came across one of Logan's posts. It was two bottle's of wine he bought from South End Venice Pizzeria and he wrote "Vote For The Businesses You Want To Survive."

Logan, the older brother of Taylor, I met in for the first time in 2010, when he was living in San Diego with his parents. I was hungover sitting on the couch at the Gelbrich's residence with Taylor and our college baseball teammate Chris watching ESPN. Logan, the all-American kid as Taylor called him, walked down the hall and greeted us by saying, "What's up, fuckers?" That was my very first interaction with Logan.

In 2011Logan started his own strength and condition business called "Function Fitness On The Bluffs". The "fake gym" as they called it, took place on the intersection of Swarthmore Ave and Via De Las Olas in the Pacific Palisades that was just a set up with a E-Z up tent, a couple of PVC pipes, kettlebells, a big tire, sledge hammer, medicine balls and yoga mats. A then college student with little financial stability, I couldn't make it to class because I couldn't pay for the gas and class every week. I would message Logan via Facebook Messenger (still have all our conversations) and he would tell me to get my ass to class and he would pay for the class, for his own business! There's aren't enough gratitude in the world for me to give back to the man.

Fast forward to 2020, he has three DEUCE Gym locations  and is in jeopardy of losing it all due to this pandemic. I've seen Logan and his former business partner, Danny, build the business from the ground up and it would break my heart to see it not survive after this whole thing is over.

I made a decision to dedicate and focus on one business that I want to see survive, and made a donation to the Logan and the gym. Of course, I was scared giving a big chuck of money, but I believe in his business and what he stands for. Besides, if you're not scared then you're not taking a chance. If you're not taking a chance then what the hell are you doing anyway?

I arrived to DEUCE Gym around 9:30 am, 30 minutes before they were going to close the Pop-Up shop. Needless to say, I stocked up on caffeine, because why not. In front of me was Lisel, a member at the gym and a chiropractor in the greater Los Angeles area and working the counter was Lacey, the coach I was assigned to that I mentioned in Day 4. It was really good seeing them even if it was for about 5 minutes.

I handed the envelope to Lacey and told her it was for the gym. (I totally forgot and had to text her to give it to Logan after the fact.)

When I got back to Casa Del Dova-Endo, I ate one of the Mush Overnight Oats I bought (Wild Blueberry was awesome) and my mom called. She called saying the police are giving tickets out that sums up to $400 to people that are hanging out in groups, even if it's just two friends that just cross paths to talk for a brief moment. My mom also heard a family was having a barbecue in there backyard and their neighbors called the cops on them for being outside. I thought that was a little extreme. But nonetheless, prepare for the extreme.

Around 12:30, I got ready to do a workout with Rafael, one of my college teammates from Mount Mercy University that lives in Ecuador.

Rafie messaged me on Day 6 to do a live Instagram workout with him on Day 7. I told him I was going to rest because my body was giving out having worked out 6 straight days.

Rafie didn't take that answer too kindly. He started to talk down to me in hopes that I would change my mind. Then, he said he would post a poll on Instagram, which he did and at one point it was about 80% in favor for me to workout. And the first person to vote, and vote in favor. Logan.

Thanks a lot, Logan.

We finally started  the workout at 1:10 pm PT / 3:10 pm GMT. He let me choose the workout since he won the votes for me to work out.

The Workout Of the Day I chose was...

"Angie" On The Bluffs
Complete For Time:
100 Dips
100 Push Ups
100 Sit Ups
100 Squats

My Time: 18:45
Rafael's Time: 20:10

I'm not a big fan being in front of a camera live, but it was pretty fun and I hope for the 4 people that were watching, it was entertaining hearing us talk smack to each other the whole time.

After the workout, I cooked lunch, which consisted of 3 eggs scrambled, 3 breakfast sausages and a bowl of garlic and spinach rice. I need to eat some carbs after the workout. I felt my body hating me for it.

Once I was done with lunch, I showered and had made a plan to go to my secret spot I mention in my previous post. It was going to take about 40-45 minute to get there from Casa Del Dova-Endo, but before I could leave my mom called and told me it was raining over at her place, which was the on the way to the secret spot. So, rain check on my field trip.

I sat down on my couch and thought how I haven't really heard about the grocery store create lately so I went to go to the local Ralph's, because I know they have the regular favored Takis chips. When I got to the Ralph's, the first aisle I went to was the paper towel / toilet paper section.

Empty.

Next, I went to where they stock up eggs.

Nothing.

I went to the meat section after and there was a handful of ham, couple of steaks and about 20 packs of bacon.

There wasn't any milk except for one 1 Gallon Whole Milk.

I went to the chips section...AND THERE WERE NO SIGN OF REGULAR FLAVORED TAKIS CHIPS. But there were other flavors so I had to settle with that.

As I was checking out, I didn't see any plastic bags at the self-checkout line so I had to carry 2 bags of chips, 2 cans of REIGN energy drinks and 4 tiny bottles of spices. Luckily, I had a beach towel, incase for an emergency and I used it to wrap my groceries and take it up to Casa Del Dova-Endo.

Home Programming exercises and ideas coming in handy.

As I walked into the room, David told me, you just missed it. He had just snatched a lamp. I saw the video later and it was pretty funny.

Lacey started a Sunday Funday activity to find a way to keep this pandemic situation interesting. She snatched a bottle of detergent.

Another member snatched his son, which was pretty impressive.

As I end this Day 7 blog, its raining outside as I am listening to "better off" by Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler.

Let's see what Day 8 brings us.

COVID-19 Quarantine: Day 6 - 3/21/2020

Day 6...

I probably fell asleep at 10:30 pm PT on Day 5. I hadn't set an alarm to wake up at a specific time for Day 6, but I still owe up at 6:00 am and took a half a dose of NyQuil to try to go back to sleep. I woke up again around 8:30 and got our of bed at 8:50.

Instead of the usual, "walk over to my kitchen, set up my Cosori and Chemex to make coffee out of Caveman Coffee grinds", I grabbed my last can of Caveman Nitro Cold Brew Coffee. I sipped on it until I got half way through it then hopped in the shower.

First order of business was to do laundry. Ever since my work schedule slowed down in early February, I tried to make it a routine to do my laundry every Saturday morning.

As I was doing laundry, I decided to make actual breakfast around 10:00 am, which consisted of Oatmeal with bananas and honey over it.

After I switched my laundry from the wash to the dryer, I decided to draw to pass time. I've been trying to get a little more creative and artistic since I was to design my own clothing brand. I'm trying to get some inspiration for a logo but I can't yet to seem to create one that I like. I started to draw objects with rose(s) and the vines around it. It's not what Im looking for but just to pass time, I guess.

An hour and 45 minutes later of laundry, that choir was done.

I texted one of the coaches at Deuce after folding laundry asking if they have any product, food and beverage specifically, since I wanted to help out as much as I can to keep the gym running.

After I put my laundry away, I drank a pre-workout and decided to workout. The original plan the night before was not to workout, but I didn't have anything else to do during Day 6 so I went after it.

The Workout Of the Day was...

Added Warm Up:
1:00 90/90 Hip Stretch Per Side
10 Shin Box Step Throughs (Total)

Squat Therapy:
Accumulate 10 minutes in the bottom of a squat..

Accessory:
Complete 4 rounds for quality of:
6 Slide to Hollow
12 Tempo Towel Hammer Curls (Ea)
15 3-Way Shoulder Raise

Conditioning for a score:
EMOM 16
Odd: 2 Broad Jumps (7’/5′)
Even: :20 Mountain Climbers (2-ct)

**Log your lowest mountain climber round score

For the Tempo Towel Hammer Curls, we had to get a towel and put object in it and curl it. For the 3-Way Shoulder Raises, I were recommended to use a brick or something that could be used as a weight to do the exercise.

Of course I used a canned soup for both those things. Again, Chicken Noodle Soup.

I sluggishly did the workout and got it done in a total time of 2 hours. I was slow moving today.

After the workout, around 3:00, I heated up the curry I made on Day 4 and made garlic and spinach rice to go with it. The garlic and spinach rice really simple to make and something I learned how to make while working at the restaurant I was at for 6 years. God, I miss working there. The staff I worked with during my shifts were the best.

I sat around the couch and was looking at my phone mindlessly after I was done eating, so I decided to edit the video of the workout I did.

Passing time, you know.

Around 6:00, I decided to go on a walk down the the beach. I forget if I mentioned it on the Days, but I'm trying to spend a maximum an hour outside to keep my body sane. It's crazy to think about. For me, there would be days, during the football season in the fall and winter, that I wouldn't go outside, unless it was to go to my car, go grab lunch and come back straight to my desk, or go back and forth to building at my job. After the football season, I made a conscious effort to be outdoors, so I've been anxious about be outside lately.

It took me about 20 minutes to get to the Playa Del Rey beach area. I didn't go all the way to the sand because I noticed there was a bunch of people from afar, most in groups of 2 or 3, that were sitting on along the coast.

I stopped and sat down on the curb of Montreal Street and South Vista Del Mar Lane looking towards the partly cloudy Pacific Ocean for about 3 minutes. The view was a little obstructed so I decided to take a walk up a hill to Vista Del Mar Lane. Theres a pretty good open view of the ocean from there. I had been there a handful of times. A good place to stand and watch the sunset.

I probably stood on the sidewalk, leaning over the railings, listening to to a playlist on Spotify that puts you in a relaxing and deep thinking thought, for about 30 minutes, just before the sun was completely down. I wish I would have stayed longer since on my walk back, the sky was lit up with hues of red and orange.

For those 30 minutes, I was thought about my friend, Joe. From where I was at, I could see the apartment he lives in. He's going through a pretty tough time. Just on Tuesday, March 10th, 2 days before I was told to work from home for the time being, Taylor, Joe and I went to Cinco, a local Mexican restaurant and went to go grab a few drinks. We were originally supposed to also grab drink with our friend Greg, but I was told he totally forgot all about it.

Joe dropped Taylor and I off at the complex we live in and told him we'll see him later, of course not what course the pandemic was going to take. That was the last time I sat down at a restaurant before the county didn't allowed restaurants to shutdown dine-ins.

During the 20 minutes walk back to Casa Del Dova-Endo, I FaceTimed Bryan (the friend and colleague, but friend first). We talked for about 20 minutes about how this is the norm now with video chatting and conferencing with friends.

Bryan is probably one of the closest friends I have from work. He and I started to work on the road in 2016 at Fox. We both were on a College Football crew, respectively, then Bryan moved onto bigger and better things in 2017, working full-time on the lead MLB crew and working on the World Series, as I took a position on the NFL side. Even with our busy and different schedule, we would try to make an effort to find the time to go golfing, which we both started going to the range back in early 2017. Since then, I think we could hit more balls straight than not.

I walked back into Casa Del Dova-Endo and saw my paper doodles that I had left on the dining room table, so I decided to draw a second thing and that took about an hour and a half to draw. Still, no inspiration of a logo for a clothing brand.

Passing time...

As I finished my second drawing, David had just come back from his parent place, where they had just moved in on Day 5. We both started down on the couch as he turned on Mad Men (I think he's on Season 3 now) around 10:00 pm. Maybe after 15 minutes or so, my eyes were getting heavy so I headed towards my room to sleep.

Before I headed to sleep, earlier in the day, probably around 7:00 am, my friend "challenged" me to take a shot of something and tag people to do the same. Then, another friend, who was also called out by the same friend, told me he was waiting for me to do it too. So around 10:15 pm, I poured a shot of Tito's vodka and took a shot of that.

I only got "tagged" in 2 challenges (thankfully), which one of them was to take a shot, and the second one being read for 30 minutes a day. That one, I can take a part of. Bryan and I were trying to read a chapter a day towards the end of 2019. I've been slacking on it, but there's no excuse this time around, right?

Day 6 ended with me thinking of going on my Sunday run at Playa Del Rey beach, which I started a few weeks back. I remember reading and finishing "Shoe Dog", a memoir of Phil Knight, the creator of Nike, while I was vacationing on Hawaii in mid-February. Knight would go on runs after work during tough time, like when his business was going into shambles at one point. Obviously, the situation in this current day is different now, but still a tough situation.

Let's see what Day 7 brings us.

COVID-19 Quarantine: Day 5 - 3/20/2020

Day 5...

Once again, woke up before my alarm.

I set my alarm for 7:45 am to call the DMV at 8:00 am when they opened, but I woke up at 5:50 instead.

As always, I strolled over my way towards the kitchen, set up my Cosori and Chemex to make coffee out of Caveman Coffee grinds. I think I have 1 of 5 pounds left now.

On this Day 5, I didn't do the workout in the morning. I decided to go a little off-schedule and plus, I didn't want to wake David up again.

So I started to work right away on updating a document of the NFL Project I am working on.

Then around 7:22 am, I received a text from Taylor. In short, it said there will be an mandatory national quarantine announced in the next 48 to 72 hours.

I sent this to a couple of people I know, two of them being my sisters. One of them came back and told me a person she knows said it's not true.

Regardless of if it's true or not, my belief is always prepare for the worse. Get ahead and stay ahead because if you don't, you already lost. One of the valuable lessons I learned while playing collegiate baseball.

At 8:00 am I called the DMV to see if they were actually open after the news that came out on Day 4. I waited about 3 minutes until a representative picked up the phone and told me in the most stale voice, "Business as usual".

So I showered and got ready quickly as I had made an appointment at 9:00 am on Day 4. As I was heading out the door, I forgot to send myself the screen shot of the receipt I took on my MacBook to my phone. I looked at the image again to double check, to only find out my appointment was for 9:00 am on Friday, June 18th, 2020.

All I saw when I made the appointment was, "9:00 am", "Friday", "Jun".

Way to go, Jun.

I disappointedly, like Day 4 walking back to my car at the DMV, walked back into Casa Del Dova-Endo and sat at the dining room table.

I called my mom because she had called me right at 8:00 am when I was calling the DMV and I had to decline the call. She was talking about the possible nationwide mandatory quarantine.

As we were talking, she got mad at me because of the tone of voice I talk to her in.

I really have to work on that.

So I came back and started working on a personal project I have been working on for the time being (this), and David had just woke up for the day.

David made me think of all the technicians (replay operators, camera operators, audio mixers, techinical directors, etc) I've worked with for the last 4 years since I start a position in remote productions at Fox. I reached out to a handful from the NFL crew first. Most of them had the same answer: safe and healthy, but unemployed.

I wish I could help out somehow but I feel helpless this time around.

After I got some work and my personal project done and had opened an iced milk coffee at 10:29 am, it was noon. I decided it would be a good time to do the workout.

The Workout Of the Day was...

Added Warm Up:
15 Calf Raises
10 Reverse Lunges (w/ rotation & stretch)
5 Seal To Downward Dog Stretch

Progressive Volume Work:
Complete 4 rounds for quality of:
15 Hollow Rocks
20 Push Ups
25 Squats

Progressive Tempo Run:
Run 9 Minutes Out
Return with a Negative Split (<9 Minutes)

The first 2 parts of the workout, I decided to do it on the small 10x7 patio Casa Del Dova-Endo has. David decided to do the workout too but we decided to go to Playa Del Rey beach for his entire workout and the last part of the workout for me.

We drove down to the beach and I started my run as David got the first part of the workout going. As I was running, which I definitely went way too hard in the first 9 minutes since I almost passed out during the last part of my run.

As I was running on the bike path of the beach, I saw a family playing beach volleyball and another family sitting down on the dunes of the beach looking out to the ocean. Just not 24 hours prior, the mayor mandated to people to stay home, but outdoor activities like walking hiking, running, cycling while practice safe social-distancing are ok. But I saw a group of people still hanging out like nothing was going on. Maybe they didn't hear the big news? I have a feeling it won't be too long before it becomes more of a law.

I finished my run in 17:41, just under 18 minutes. Like I said, I almost passed out (Thanks Logan).

And yes, of course I used canned soups as weighs to do my calf raises and check if my arms were vertical during the push ups.

Campbell Chicken Noodle Soup, if you were curious.

After David finished his workout, we just went to back to Casa Del Dova-Endo, where I started to an extra credit workout via Instagram post with Colton Waltner, a member at Deuce Gym that I am in a strength training class with and a former 2017 MLB Draft Pick by the Minnesota Twins. It's something to keep us sane and pass the time. I pretty much look forward to it every day. Weekends might be rest days, but we'll see.

I called my mom again because she called me as I was crossing the finish line on the run. I had to quickly decline her call because I wanted to get my time for the run. I think I submitted my time by one or two seconds more. Thanks mom.

The conversation was about her filing for unemployment, both her and my youngest sister that works at a Japanese barbecue restaurant on Lincoln Blvd in Venice. My mom had some questions so I tried to answer the best I could.

After I hung up the phone, I sat there for quite sometime, the reality sinking in more and more.

To take my mind off of it, I decided to cook breakfast for lunch. 2 eggs sunny side up, 3 breakfast sausages, and broccoli florets. Breakfast is great anytime. It's my fall back to when I don't know what to eat. I remember one night in middle school, after playing in a baseball tournament, I was sitting in a half circle booth seating next to my coach at Denny's as I was looking at the dinner menu. He looked at me saying, "You always get breakfast at Denny's for breakfast, lunch or dinner." Ever since then, if I didn't know what to eat, I would make some sort of breakfast.

After eating lunch, I pulled out a cup of coffee I had been refrigerating for a couple of days now around 3 pm and I decided to make a simple edit with the video I took of the workout on Adobe Premiere. First, I wanted to learn how to put in effects, like a linear wipe, so I YouTube'd a video on it and followed along but didn't for some reason, it wasn't working on my MacBook so I put a pin on it. Hope to live to see another day with it.

After I edited the video, which was nothing too special, I decided to FaceTime one of my good friends and former cubical-mate at Fox, Jennifer. She's a biggest Patriots and Tom Brady fan (big New England sports fan in general) and I hadn't asked her about the big news of Brady going to Tampa Bay. She was in her hometown in Rhode Island after travels for I want to say about 3 weeks with he US Women's National Soccer Team (sorry if I got my facts wrong Jen!). Her office, based in Chicago was closed down due to this pandemic, so she decided to go back home to her family before who knows when she could and would be able to see them again.

It was good catching up with her. I'm very thankful for our friendship and that we kept up with each other when I left the Fox Sports studio group to go work on the road.

But I had to hang up on her, and told her that earlier in the day, Taylor had mentioned to me Del Rey Deli, a deli down the street from our complex, was still having a Fried Chicken Sandwich Pop-Up. Every time they had one of those, it would be when I was on the road for work, so I had to take advantage of it one time.

So I called in at 5:46 pm, a minute after they were taking phone calls. Busy.

I hung up and called right back immediately. Busy.

I waited 30 seconds to call back, and it finally rang. I ordered two chicken sandwiches. And I would say, if you like fried chicken sandwiches, you should try it when they have their pop-ups. But when I finished both of them in about 5 minutes, I immediately felt the sodium rushing to my face. It was definitely worth it.

As I was eating my fried chicken sandwiches, Logan, the owner of Deuce Gym post a video on his Instagram account. I almost shedded tears but I held it back. He was mentioning about how businesses and companies won't survive this whole situation. I remember texting with him on Monday and mentioning this to me. My heart dropped to the inner core of the earth.

I sat on the couch with a full stomach and watched David turn on and play Call Of Duty, but I decided finish up my blog for Day 5.

5 Days in the books, 28 more until April 17th, and maybe more. Let's hope they find a vaccine for it sooner than later. Better yet, find a way to make those days count.

Let's see what Day 6 brings us.

COVID-19 Quarantine: Day 4 - 3/19/2020

Day 4...

I woke up yet again before my alarm, this time at 4:35 am. I woke up from a dream where I was at a group gathering at a friend's backyard. I was sitting in front of a group fo about 30 people, ready to take a picture, then someone hugged me from behind and told me that they liked my Black Old Skool Vans I had on. Then my eyes opened to reality.

NyQuil always puts me in a deep parallel universe. That Jun lives a better life.

I didn't plan on working on on Day 4 and add in a rest day instead. But since I was up so early, I told myself, "Screw it, I'm working out."

But as always, before I started the workout, I slugged my way towards the kitchen, set up my Cosori and Chemex to make coffee out of Caveman Coffee grinds.

The Workout Of the Day was...

Progressive Stability Work:
Complete 3 rounds for quality of:
8 Tempo Ipsilateral Straight Leg Dead Bugs (Left)
8 Tempo Ipsilateral Straight Leg Dead Bugs (Right)

:15 L-Sit

8 Tempo Contralateral Straight Leg Dead Bugs (Left)
8 Tempo Contralateral Straight Leg Dead Bugs (Right)

Conditioning for a score:
Complete 4 rounds for reps of:
In 3 minutes…
:60 Plank Hold
50 Lateral Jumps (Over Implement 3″ Tall)
Max Burpees
-Rest :90-

There was an optional warm up of
2 Rounds:
5 Inch Worms
:30 Second Pigeon Stretch (Left Side)
:30 Second Pigeon Stretch (Right Side)

I would have done it but I woke up before the coach in a group was assigned to, Lacey, who has been doing an awesome job of keeping up with everyone the first week of the Deuce Gym Home Programming, so I just want ahead went straight into the workout.

Yes, I used canned soups to do my lateral jumps.

When I checked my phone when I woke up, I missed 2 calls from my mom overnight so I gave her a call back at 7:05 am. When I asked her, she went straight to the point. She told me a family friend told her that Los Angeles is going to have a restriction on people not being able to leave their household and was going to shutdown businesses starting early as this weekend.

At this time, I didn't ask any questions as I was getting ready to go to the DMV to apply for a Real ID, incase if and when we were able to go back to work and I didn't have time to go to the DMV. It's probably not the best time to go but I wanted to get this done when there is less waiting time at the DMV. I hung up the phone and told my mom I was going to DMV, maybe to get there before the completely shutdown for the time being.

I texted David before I left, since he was parked behind in our tandem parking, to see if he was awake, and he was. He told me I had woken him up from the noise of doing the lateral jumps and burpees.

I felt extremely bad about it, especially early in the morning.

When I got to the DMV, there was a group of people standing in front of the DMV Building in Inglewood. I couldn't tell if they were pedestrians or workers. I parked my car and walked over towards the entrance as a lady started to talk in a loud voice towards me...

Lady: "DO YOU HAVE AN APPOINTMENT?!"
Me: "No. Walking-In"
Lady: "WE ARE NOT TAKING ANYONE WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENTS. PLEASE MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AND COME BACK."

Disappointedly, I walked backed to my car and head back home to pick up my laptop and headed to my mom's house to get a different scenery to get some work done.

After a couple hours of work, my friend Kyle wanted to workout so I headed over to his house. A 2nd workout seemed great at the time and I hope the aftermath the next morning isn't too bad.

After working out again with Kyle, we just stood and talked for about 30 minutes about the pandemic, work, money and baseball.

I feel really bad for the seniors that got their season cut short to this whole thing. I couldn't imagine all the hard work they put into their what could be their final season, to find out it came to an end.

As I was driving back to Casa Del Dova-Endo, a random thought came to me.

In high school, I used to go to a spot, a secret spot to get away and meditate. A select few know about this place. Since Kyle lived not too far from it, I decided to drive there.

It was still standing strong.

The tree about 50 feet high on the bluffs with the thick roots coming out of the ground like a rollercoaster track, looking over the pacific ocean (That's all the hint I'll give you).

I sat on one of the roots for about 20 minutes. Closed my eyes. Listening to the waves, crashing on the the cliffs. Breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth, just as my friend, and Breathe and Exposure coach Kimmy taught me how to.

It felt good to Zen out and think about nothing for a little bit.

I finally drove back home to Casa Del Dova-Endo to get more work done, but I had an unsettling feeling and was distracted by the news my mom told me early in the morning. I couldn't focus at all. So instead, I went back to my comfort food of eating curry, but instead of rice, I used broccoli florets instead.

As I was trying to stay focused to get work done, Taylor told me a local Venice pizzeria was selling wine for $20 dollars a bottle. He said he was going over so I decided to join in. Riley Rey, his golden doodle, came along for the ride too.

Desperate times calls for desperate needs, and I wanted to help out and take advantage of this, since the owner of Southend Venice is a member at Deuce Gym.

Support the Local/Small Businesses as much as you can during this time...

I came back home with 2 bottles of red wind; the South End Cabernet Sauvignon and Nero d’ Avola, Feudo Montoni (organic) 2010. I'm going to save those for an appropriate time.

Before heading back to my place I stopped by Taylors place to hang out with Riley Rey. When she finally decided to take a nap, I was going to head out the door.

Then, the next moment I remember clearly.

I was sitting on Taylor's couch minding my own business. Then I heard him yell, "F**k."

I showed me an email that a friend of ours posted on Facebook reading "PLEASE READ: Preparing for LA County Shelter in Place Order", which LA Countyr resident will be told to Shelter in Place some time tonight.

Like a bad dream becoming a nightmare.

Then, shortly after, a Press Conference was held by the Mayor of Los Angeles, Long Beach and Pasadena where they addressed the "Safer At Home" Order.

Taylor, his girlfriend Ashley and I listened to the press conference as we all sunk into the couch...
I'm worried about my family.
I'm worried about all my friends, especially the ones that worked so hard to move out to Los Angeles to chase their dreams.
I'm worried about small & local businesses.
I'm worried about the world.

David texted me to switch spots in our tandem parking space because he was going to go get gas, which I told him about the Facebook post and turned on the news, but probably wanted to wait until an article came out on it. I decided to join him to get gas and then we went to the local liquor store so grab a couple more things since the "Safer At Home" Order came out. I also tagged along and went back to the same liquor store couple hours later since Taylor wanted to go.

Day 4 ended with a glass of wine that I had bought from Costco couple weeks prior to the Quarantine stage, then headed to bed around 11:10 pm, the latest if stayed up since Sports Emmys were due early February.

Let's see what Day 5 brings us.

P.S. - I dont' have much followers on this blogs (only 2) and I haven't shared this out in the social media world yet. But I did see someone read my Day 1 and Day 2 posts. (Thanks Joe!)

COVID-19 Quarantine: Day 3 - 3/18/2020

Day 3...

It never seems to fail that I wake up before my alarm. I had set my alarm again for 6:00 am but instead of 5 minutes before my alarm, I woke up an hour before this time around. I wanted to sleep in so I stayed in bed as long as I could until I became restless and got out of bed at 5:30 am.

Like every morning, I strolled over to the kitchen and set up my Cosori and Chemex to make coffee out of Caveman Coffee grinds.

During this quarantine phase, my goal is to do my workouts outside, which allows me to get at most an hour of air and sun, until we are on complete lockdown.

The Workout Of the Day was...

Warm Up:
2 Rounds of:
12 Lateral Raises (Canned Soup As Weights, Why Not) <<< Not edited
12 Glutei Bridge Raises
12 Cossack Squats

Handstand Series:
Complete 6 rounds for quality of:
:45 Foot Elevated Plank Hold
-Rest :90-

AMRAP 20
Walking Lunges

Usually before every workout, I never stretch. Hardly ever. Only if it was mandated if I took a class. But this time, my right knee felt tight and every time I would put it down to the ground, I felt like it was going to tear. So I took about 30 minutes to stretch it out.

During the AMRAP (As Many Rep As Possible), I did 452 lunges, but I was being extremely careful with my knee, though it didn't hurt during the workout, I felt like I wasn't 100%. Better to be safe than sorry. After I returned to Casa Del Dova-Endo, I iced my knees.

...Also, yes, I used canned soup as weighs. Keep it interesting during these crazy times.

I have been portioning my meals for a while now. As many friends know, I can eat a lot. A small example would be eating three 3x3 In-N-Out Burgers in about 15 minutes. I was starving then.

But the beginning of last November, I was going through a pretty tough time. I was drinking everyday to ease the pain for about week. Then, one day in the middle of the month, I decided to do a fast. I was looking for articles on how I can improve my diet and fitness, especially with traveling for work every weekend and working crazy hours during the fall and winter, then I came across 2 articles on a basketball player named Dwight Howard on his journey for the upcoming 2019-2020 season.

Instead of easing into it, I went in cold turkey. You can ask David that. My workouts went from two to four days a week when I was home and I only ate one big meal after I worked out, which consisted of either chicken or ground turkey and green beans or broccoli.

I did it for 30 days and never felt better physically and mentally in my life.

But for lunch on Day 3, I had my last two leftover slices of pizza from David's birthday on Day 1.

After lunch, I went and continued to do more work from home, prepping for the upcoming USGA golf season and the NFL season.

I received a call from a number I hadn't recognized, but I remember calling the financial services I usually go get my taxes done at. They told me if I wanted to get it done, go over there now.

On a normal given week, Jefferson Financial Services is packed. I've waited 2 hours before getting my name called. So I would usually go 2 hours before they open like a maniac, be the first one there, be the first one on the waiting list. out of there in 45 minutes after they open.

On Day 3, I was out of there in about 20 minutes.

After I came back home, Taylor, one of my dearest friends I mentioned in Day 2, asked me if I wanted to go to Scopa Italian Roots, one of the restaurants a member at Deuce Gym owns and became friends with.

Since all restaurants are closed for dining in Los Angeles now, Chef Antonia Lofaso started up the Scopa Market, where the restaurant is selling items available for purchase and prepare at home.

Taylor went and order some pasta and sauce from there, as I was tempted to buy some ricotta and ciabatta but I held out because I had too much bread last few days.

Selfish. I know.

We came back to home and I went over to Taylor's place (Taylor lives in the same complex as David and I). They just got a new golden doodle, Riley Rey, that I helped Taylor on his adventure to Las Vegas to get the dog 2 weeks prior.

Being around dogs are just awesome. Especially when they are puppies...except when they pee and poo everywhere.

After an hour or so at Taylor's, I came back and backed up files from my MacBook to a external hard drive because who knows when my computer my crash and burn. I got the MacBook Pro I am using in April 2013 as a college graduation gift from my mom and two sisters. It almost died on me before but I got it revived in 2018.

For dinner, I had 4 chicken tacos with chopped lettuce, onion, salsa and lime. As my friend and colleague (friend first), Bryan would say, "Taco on a Wednesday? You're crazy."

I sat on the couch as David was watching Mad Men but I decided to call it an earlier night and headed to bed around 7:55 pm and read one chapter from the book, "In-N-Out Burger" by Stacy Perman.

I'm a big lover of In-N-Out and my co-worker bought me the book about how the empire was built.

I started a second chapter but my eyes felt heavy so I attempted to go to sleep.

Let's see what Day 4 brings us.
