Day 7...
A full week in the books.
I probably fell asleep around 11:00 pm PT on Day 6 listening to "Healing" by Rebelution, but I woke up around 1:25 am, sweating from a bad dream.
Logan, a friend and owner of DEUCE Gym (friend first), posted a video on social media the other day saying a lot of small and local businesses won't make it out of the pandemic when it ends. On Day 6, the DEUCE Gym Instagram account posted a picture that on Sunday all the food and beverage products they sold must be sold. The post read "EVERYTHING MUST GO!",and that was the last thing I read in my dream and woke up.
I tossed and turned for about an hour and a half then finally fell back asleep to only wake up to my alarm at 6:00 am, where I was going to go down to the beach to go on a run, as I mentioned in Day 6. But my body was too exhausted. So I went back to sleep and rolled out of bed at 6:40.
I am so restless.
And yes, on Day 7, I slugged my way over towards the kitchen, set up my Cosori and Chemex to make coffee out of Caveman Coffee grinds.
First order of business was to finish my my blog for Day 6. I usually try to write my posts the day after incase I do or did something after I did post it. After I finished published it, I got ready to go to DEUCE for their Pop-Up store they were having where "EVERYTHING MUST GO!"
Before I left for DEUCE, let me back track.
While in bed on Day 6, I was scrolling through Instagram stories (I really need to not be on my phone all the time during this whole situation) and I came across one of Logan's posts. It was two bottle's of wine he bought from South End Venice Pizzeria and he wrote "Vote For The Businesses You Want To Survive."
Logan, the older brother of Taylor, I met in for the first time in 2010, when he was living in San Diego with his parents. I was hungover sitting on the couch at the Gelbrich's residence with Taylor and our college baseball teammate Chris watching ESPN. Logan, the all-American kid as Taylor called him, walked down the hall and greeted us by saying, "What's up, fuckers?" That was my very first interaction with Logan.
In 2011Logan started his own strength and condition business called "Function Fitness On The Bluffs". The "fake gym" as they called it, took place on the intersection of Swarthmore Ave and Via De Las Olas in the Pacific Palisades that was just a set up with a E-Z up tent, a couple of PVC pipes, kettlebells, a big tire, sledge hammer, medicine balls and yoga mats. A then college student with little financial stability, I couldn't make it to class because I couldn't pay for the gas and class every week. I would message Logan via Facebook Messenger (still have all our conversations) and he would tell me to get my ass to class and he would pay for the class, for his own business! There's aren't enough gratitude in the world for me to give back to the man.
Fast forward to 2020, he has three DEUCE Gym locations and is in jeopardy of losing it all due to this pandemic. I've seen Logan and his former business partner, Danny, build the business from the ground up and it would break my heart to see it not survive after this whole thing is over.
I made a decision to dedicate and focus on one business that I want to see survive, and made a donation to the Logan and the gym. Of course, I was scared giving a big chuck of money, but I believe in his business and what he stands for. Besides, if you're not scared then you're not taking a chance. If you're not taking a chance then what the hell are you doing anyway?
I arrived to DEUCE Gym around 9:30 am, 30 minutes before they were going to close the Pop-Up shop. Needless to say, I stocked up on caffeine, because why not. In front of me was Lisel, a member at the gym and a chiropractor in the greater Los Angeles area and working the counter was Lacey, the coach I was assigned to that I mentioned in Day 4. It was really good seeing them even if it was for about 5 minutes.
I handed the envelope to Lacey and told her it was for the gym. (I totally forgot and had to text her to give it to Logan after the fact.)
When I got back to Casa Del Dova-Endo, I ate one of the Mush Overnight Oats I bought (Wild Blueberry was awesome) and my mom called. She called saying the police are giving tickets out that sums up to $400 to people that are hanging out in groups, even if it's just two friends that just cross paths to talk for a brief moment. My mom also heard a family was having a barbecue in there backyard and their neighbors called the cops on them for being outside. I thought that was a little extreme. But nonetheless, prepare for the extreme.
Around 12:30, I got ready to do a workout with Rafael, one of my college teammates from Mount Mercy University that lives in Ecuador.
Rafie messaged me on Day 6 to do a live Instagram workout with him on Day 7. I told him I was going to rest because my body was giving out having worked out 6 straight days.
Rafie didn't take that answer too kindly. He started to talk down to me in hopes that I would change my mind. Then, he said he would post a poll on Instagram, which he did and at one point it was about 80% in favor for me to workout. And the first person to vote, and vote in favor. Logan.
Thanks a lot, Logan.
We finally started the workout at 1:10 pm PT / 3:10 pm GMT. He let me choose the workout since he won the votes for me to work out.
The Workout Of the Day I chose was...
"Angie" On The Bluffs
Complete For Time:
100 Dips
100 Push Ups
100 Sit Ups
100 Squats
My Time: 18:45
Rafael's Time: 20:10
I'm not a big fan being in front of a camera live, but it was pretty fun and I hope for the 4 people that were watching, it was entertaining hearing us talk smack to each other the whole time.
After the workout, I cooked lunch, which consisted of 3 eggs scrambled, 3 breakfast sausages and a bowl of garlic and spinach rice. I need to eat some carbs after the workout. I felt my body hating me for it.
Once I was done with lunch, I showered and had made a plan to go to my secret spot I mention in my previous post. It was going to take about 40-45 minute to get there from Casa Del Dova-Endo, but before I could leave my mom called and told me it was raining over at her place, which was the on the way to the secret spot. So, rain check on my field trip.
I sat down on my couch and thought how I haven't really heard about the grocery store create lately so I went to go to the local Ralph's, because I know they have the regular favored Takis chips. When I got to the Ralph's, the first aisle I went to was the paper towel / toilet paper section.
Empty.
Next, I went to where they stock up eggs.
Nothing.
I went to the meat section after and there was a handful of ham, couple of steaks and about 20 packs of bacon.
There wasn't any milk except for one 1 Gallon Whole Milk.
I went to the chips section...AND THERE WERE NO SIGN OF REGULAR FLAVORED TAKIS CHIPS. But there were other flavors so I had to settle with that.
As I was checking out, I didn't see any plastic bags at the self-checkout line so I had to carry 2 bags of chips, 2 cans of REIGN energy drinks and 4 tiny bottles of spices. Luckily, I had a beach towel, incase for an emergency and I used it to wrap my groceries and take it up to Casa Del Dova-Endo.
Home Programming exercises and ideas coming in handy.
As I walked into the room, David told me, you just missed it. He had just snatched a lamp. I saw the video later and it was pretty funny.
Lacey started a Sunday Funday activity to find a way to keep this pandemic situation interesting. She snatched a bottle of detergent.
Another member snatched his son, which was pretty impressive.
As I end this Day 7 blog, its raining outside as I am listening to "better off" by Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler.
Let's see what Day 8 brings us.
